The Basic Six Inc.

I believe an introduction is in order.
My name is June Bleich. I, along with my partner Jorge Hernandez, founded the 501c3 not for profit The Basic Six.
Creating The Basic Six was on my bucket list for quite a while.
I came to realize, after volunteering for the American Cancer Society's Look Good Feel Better program for over 15 years,
most women who received a cancer diagnosis were poorly equipped to face the multiple challenges caused by cancer treatment. Having witnessed first hand the aesthetic
side effects, I felt knowledgeable enough to develop a service specifically designed to meet these issues. BUT,
a cancer diagnosis is a full body attack : physically, emotionally and cosmetically. All seem to interconnect on many levels and most times a three base hit is necessary.
Unfortunately though, our health care system appears to limit their involvement to only the physical aspect of a cancer diagnosis.
This leaves women painfully unable to handle their " guts and heart ". Struggling with loneliness and sadness, many admit to being embarrassed to even ask their healthcare providers
for help.
Each of our Basic Six sessions begin with group introductions. Most women are happy to share their diagnoses and all by the session conclusion feel comfortable
enough to proudly remove their head covering. We welcome all at every stage of their cancer journey. Quite a number have introduced themselves as cancer survivors.
To that, they get a buck from me. I find the word survivor to be ill fitting and in appropriate. According to " Webster's New World College Dictionary ", to survive is to continue
living or existing. These women are not simply living or existing... They have CHAMPIONED their challenges. A CHAMPION is a WINNER, not one who simply exists after
hardships.
It is my responsibility to provide the CHAMPION of services to all my women. Our cosmetic and aesthetic program is flawless, but the remainder lacked intimacy. Our website had to " tell it like it is " . Not hype.
We needed our website to offer a platform to our CHAMPIONS : a space where they could freely express and share to so many
Jorge and I proudly welcome you to our newest Basic Six website addition : " We Are the Champions ".
